It's not easy to get employed in Cameroon (check out our post Here to find out more about jobs in Cameroon). As a journalist, or if you plan on building a career in journalism, it's absolutely important that you practice your skills so you don't forget, despite the odds. Remember what they say, "practice makes perfect ".
Thanks to the internet, there are so many ways by which you can practise and improve your skills. This will be beneficial to you in the longrun.
1. Create a blog
With a blog, you have the opportunity to write articles on a variety of topics and post online. You don't need to worry about your niche or regularity in uploading new content. Just write about whatever comes to your heart and post when you can. You will eventually get there. Remember, starting is the most difficult thing and your goal is to start and practice.
With a blog, you will be able to improve your writing skills as well as be able to monitor your progress among other benefits. If you are thinking of creating a blog, you might want to look at these two platforms, blogger and wordpress.
2. Create a podcast
There is no better way to practice your radio broadcast skills in Cameroon than to start your own podcast. Your podcast can be on any topic of your choice. You can even produce new episodes using your mobile phone. Two platforms you could use include Anchor and sportify. 3. Starting a YouTube channel
It's not the same as a TV channel but it's a great tool for practice. While some people go there purposely to get paid for their content, you can use this platform to practice your TV presentation skills. Remember, with your mobile phone, it doesn't matter the video quality, or sound what matters is that you can practise and improve your talent. To avoid unnecessary feedback, you can choose to block all comments and ask your viewers to go to your instagram or twitter page an leave their comments there. People who care about you and want you to improve will help you out with constructive criticism.
Whether writing, producing a podcast or TV program on YouTube, put in your best. This is the way in which you sell yourself. When people see your progress and hard work, they will not hesitate to contact you for their projects. Then on you can begin to earn some income from it.
The beginning is always the hardest but just start. You will find your way.
